German Legal Tech Summit 2024: Innovation and Networking Taken to the Next Level

A Legal Sector in Transition: The second German Legal Tech Summit once again highlighted how innovation and connectivity are shaping the future of the legal profession. With inspiring keynotes, groundbreaking technologies, and over 400 participants, the event set a new benchmark for digitalisation and collaboration in the legal industry.

A Gathering of Visionaries
On 7 November, it was time once again: the second German Legal Tech Summit brought together legal professionals, tech experts, and key stakeholders from business, government, and politics to collectively shape the future of law. This year’s edition was bigger—and more dynamic—than ever before. The programme and number of guests more than doubled, and with Deutsche Messe AG as a new partner, we found an ally who shares our vision for a digital future in the legal field.

A Strong Opening
Jörg Offenhausen, Managing Partner at activelaw and Managing Director of the German Legal Tech Hub, opened the summit and extended heartfelt thanks to the supporters and sponsors who believed in the vision from day one. “Without strong partners like VGH Versicherung, KPMG, and stp.one—who backed us early on, even when the path was still uncertain—none of this would have been possible,” said Offenhausen.

The atmosphere was marked by optimism and excitement. More than 400 guests—including lawyers, startups, Legal Tech professionals, and decision-makers from a wide range of industries—turned the summit into a hotspot for innovation and knowledge exchange.

Keynote: Protection Against Cyber Threats Is Crucial
The day’s first major highlight came from Linus Neumann, hacker, psychologist, and spokesperson for the Chaos Computer Club. His keynote was a compelling wake-up call: IT infrastructure is the backbone of modern organisations and must be better protected. With a combination of expert insight and dry wit, Neumann underscored the critical importance of cybersecurity strategies in today’s world.

This message was perfectly aligned with our booth, which activelaw presented in collaboration with List + Lohr. With the launch of the “List + Law” Security Subscription, we introduced an innovative product designed to shield managing directors from liability risks related to IT security incidents—a tailored solution for the challenges faced by mid-sized companies.

Start-up Pitch Trophy: A Deserved Win
Another major highlight was the 2024 Start-up Pitch Trophy, where emerging companies showcased their innovative Legal Tech solutions. The clear winner: Tim Kniepkamp with his start-up Suitcase, a platform for digital dispute resolution. This approach has the potential to resolve legal conflicts faster, more affordably, and more efficiently. The prize? Legal advisory services worth €3,000 from activelaw—a powerful step toward a promising future.

Innovative Technology from Lower Saxony
The stand of the Lower Saxony judiciary also attracted considerable interest. Using VR headsets, legal trainees can now prepare for court proceedings in a completely new way. This exceptional initiative once again proves the strength of Lower Saxony as a Legal Tech hub. The fact that even public institutions are embracing digital solutions sends a strong signal of openness and innovation.

activelaw: A Story of Connection and Impact
As a founding member and active supporter of the German Legal Tech Hub, activelaw is proud to have been a catalyst in driving this movement forward. The summit once again demonstrated how vital it is to strengthen the network within the Legal Tech community, in order to collectively develop solutions for the sector's most pressing challenges.

Brimming with inspiration and a wealth of new connections, we look back on a highly successful German Legal Tech Summit 2024—and look ahead with excitement as we continue to actively shape the future of the legal profession.
